What is the deal with linen?

Literally, everyone is linen mad these days; we know you love it so much that we made a whole range of pure linen aprons for you … and we wanted to share some other interesting things you may not know about linen.

Did you know that linen is 30% stronger than cotton? At first, linen may have more "body" or a slightly stronger feel to it, but even as you wear it or use it – linen becomes so incredibly soft whilst retaining its strength that you will never look back.

Linen has incredible longevity and a lovely drape when it falls.

Linen can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture; this means it is excellent for keeping the body cool and comfortable. This absorption means that linen tea towels are are very popular for drying glasses and crockery.

Linen is a natural fibre – it’s hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. Linen is a natural fiber that stems from the flax plant. It uses considerably fewer resources than cotton or polyester (such as water, energy, pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers).

Flax can grow in poor soil which is not used for food production. In some cases, it can even rehabilitate polluted soil. Flax plants also have a high rate of carbon absorption.

For these reasons, we consider linen to be a sustainable material, even when it is not organically grown.

Linen is also great for sufferers of allergies and skin conditions as it will not irritate the skin - perfect for face masks.

When we source our linen for our Cream Collection Lifestyle linen garments – we source ethically farmed linen from farms and manufacturers that value their staff and offer a safe working environment.

That is why linen is such a big deal to us – comfort, quality, style, and sustainable production make it one of our faves.
